Success Story of Nasreen Banu

An English saying goes like this, “Success includes uncountable drops of sweat.” It is undoubtedly true and applicable to this irrepressible lady of Shikaripura in Shivamogga District of Karnataka. She is success personified with all her hard work, dedication, uncompromising confidence and above all by the support and encouragement of JSS Shivamogga.

Born in a poor and humble Muslim family, she has set new goals for the entire women community that nothing is impossible in life if your vision and goal are genuine and positive. She resides in Vinayaka Nagar, IV cross in Shikaripura. Nasreen Banu’s father is a coolie and mother is a patient who has to undergo a Hysterectomy operation immediately. The most surprising fact about this lady is that she is a Drop-out from the school after her fifth standard because of very poor condition of her family. She has a younger sister and a brother, who are now pursuing their studies because of the staunch support of Nasreen Banu.

She was identified by the JSS and was guided to join different training courses given in JSS to pave way for livelihood. After getting successfully trained, Nasreen Banu chose tailoring as her primary profession to make both ends meet. Gradually, she started to utilize other trained skills like Bag-making, Fashion Designing, Garment (Basic Sewing Operator), Beautician and embroidery. Within a short span of three years, this lady is now the talk of the town. She peels the areca nuts during the daytime and stitches the clothes until late night. Success Story of SAPNA

Smt. Sapna – beneficiary of Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Shimoga opened a parlor “Veenus Herbal Beauty Parlor and Fancy Store” at Sharavathi Nagar, Shimoga with a moderate capitalization. The inaugural ceremony was conducted at Sharavati Nagar on 24.02.2012 by Smt S.Y.Aruna Devi, Director, JSS, Shimoga.

In her journey, we fetch some noteworthy points.  Smt. Sapna, aged about 30 years, resident of Sharavathi Nagar, Shimoga.  She leads her joint family with meager amount and facing a lot of financial problems, because she was married to a Tailor.  She took a major decision to get herself enrolled as trainee in JSS, Shimoga and selected Beauty culture and Health Care course with a reason of employment potential.  She inspired very much about “Mobile parlor Business” advised and motivated by the Director, in her regular visits. She took it as a challenge and gain Rs 10.000/- income from mobile parlor business along with her training period.  She got a lot of confidence and joined few more value added courses including Stage Makeup, Preparation of Herbal Beauty Products,  Pearl Ornaments making etc,.

Finally, she was opened a parlor with her initial capital Rs 10,000/- along with financial support from the financial institution. To day she is the proud owner of the parlor and Fancy Store. She remembered the help made by Jan Shikshan Sansthan in the field of Vocational skill courses to the needy person.

ALMAS PRODUCTION UNIT, SOMINAKOPPA, SHIMOGA

A Muslim lady by name Smt Almas is running the production unit at Sominakoppa along with other 10 poor Muslim women’s. The unit is highly successful in getting orders from the neighboring areas and blocks. The Almas Production unit run by the poor Muslim women has added one more feather in to the good work being done by the JSS Shimoga.

They are undertaking Zari Zardosi and Aari work especially on Saree/Blouse. These days Zari, Zardosi is used to make exquisite Salwars, coats, fashion accessories like purses, handbags, belts, furnishing accessories like cushion covers, wall hangings and boxes etc. The Almas unit is functioning successfully in financial terms and our successful beneficiaries are now earning a substantial income out of our trainings.

Jan Shikshan Sansthan  is promoting and encouraging this unit to participate in the exhibition conducted by Government agencies, NABARD, Zilla Panchayat, DCC Bank, Women Development Corporation, Central Social Welfare Advisory Board etc

CHANDANA PARLOUR – SHIKARIPURA

“A Successful JSS Women beneficiary moving towards self reliance and excellence”
A woman by name Surekha, who underwent “Beauty culture and Health care” and “Fashion designing and bag making” trainings in JSS, Shikaripura is now proud owner of “Chandana Beauty Parlour”. The sources of inspiration for establishing the Beauty Parlour came to her from stitching even though, both of these do not co-relate each other.

Commencing with a single sewing machine, she started to stitch designer blouses and salwar suits, which brought her name and fame. Mrs. Surekha then transformed herself into beautician.

Investing herself earned Rs. 50,000.00 and Rs. 25,000.00 additional bank loan, she has started her ‘Chandana Beauty parlour’ in Kaanur Street near masjid in Shikaripur. Now she runs both tailoring and parlour under one roof. She has become popular and very familiar to the public through distributing pamphlets and visiting cards.

Each day, she cuts the cloth material received for stitching designer blouses and salwar suits at her home and distributes them to 5-6 JSS beneficiaries, who underwent training in JSS on piece basis. Thus, she is indirectly helping other women while strengthening her own earnings. Her this attitude, helped 5-6 families earned their livelihood.

She does her service in the parlour from afternoon till night. Setting up the parlour in a Muslim dominated locality has become an added advantage to her. The Muslim women visit her parlour on a regular basis without any religious hindrances. She has now further extended her jurisdiction to other parts near Shikaripur visiting marriage ceremonies to provide mobile parlour service.

The Juggling story of slum Girl to attain Self reliance

Smt. Nazeema has worked as resource person at District jail to inmates, Madhavanele – An association for the rag pickers, Juvenile Home and today she is working as a resource person at Manasadhara A rehabilitation center for the Mentally challenged run by Dr. Ashok Pai and other rural areas of shimoga with a monthly income of Rs.6,000/- and at leisurely time she earns at home by taking orders of blouses, dresses for stitching and makes zari work on sarees and dresses too.
