Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Shivamogga under Ministry of Skill development and Entrepreneurship, Govt of India,successfully started its Swachhata Pakhwada fortnight, Skill Se Sampurna Swachhata Campaign (to be held from 16 July to 31 July, 2018) along with Prerana Educational and Social Trust which runs five institutions, Swamy Vivekananda Vidya Samsthe which runs about 8 educational institutions, Govt. High School, Gadikoppa and Panchayat Raj Institutions. The inauguration programme was held at Prerana Convention Hall, Prerana Educational and Social Trust, Sagar Road, Shivamogga on 16-07-2018 from 10.00 am to 12 noon.

The audience comprised of more than 2500 students seated in a hall that can accommodate about 3000 audiences including the beneficiaries of JSS from all the seven blocks of Shivamogga.

The programme was inaugurated by Sri. K.B Ashok Naik, MLA, Shivamogga Rural, Shivamogga, who in his address highlighted the plight of the rural people who are prone to many diseases on account of lack of cleanliness and how the youth can take an active role in keeping the surrounding clean and tidy and thereby create healthy rural population contributing to a healthy India.

A pledge on Swachhata Pakhwadawas given to the audience by Sri. Nagesh, G.P., Asst. Professor of PESIAMS to the audience who undertook the oath to keep the country neat and clean and to devote hundred hours per year for voluntary cleanliness work and to keep the family, locality, village and the workplace clean and to propagate the message of Swachha Bharat mission in villages and towns.

The highlight of the inaugural programme was the speech of Prof.B.M Kumaraswamy, Economist and Environmentalist, Shivamogga and Former Principal of DVS Arts and Science College, Shivamogga. The chief guest is also the recipient of Nataka Academy Award, former member Western Ghats Task Force; he is also represented in WTO – Swadesh Jagaran Munch at Geneva in 2009. In his invigorating speech the chief guest quoted how India is a peculiar country, a country of contrast – how it has beaten France to secure the Sixth place among the 12 countries with the highest GDP. But on the other side India is the world’s largest open defecation country. He inspired the students as to how the Swachha Bharath concept a vision of our Honorable Prime Minister Sri.Narendra Modi can be made successful by making the concept an internalized factor and how it should be a movement and its fruitfulness can be achieved to the maximum only by community centred and community managed activities. The Speaker quoted statistics as to how India has already started achieving its mission and how 19 states have become free from open defecation. He motivated the students that nothing is impossible if we have the will to achieve it and how it is a privilege for us that we have this precious opportunity to join hands with the government in this cleanliness drive.

Sri.B.Y.RaghavendraManaging Trustee of PES Trust and Ex-MLA, Shikaripura, and Ex-MP, Shivamogga presided over the function and stressed upon the importance of making India plastic free and the importance of utilizing solar energy.He also motivated students to educate people around them on pollution control. The president of the programme said that the vision of Sri Narendra Modiji wrt Swachhta activities throughout the country has become successful.

Smt. S.Y Aruanadevi, Director of Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Shivamogga and also trustee of PES Trust, Shivamogga in her introductory speech welcomed the dignitaries and the audience and explained the idea behind organizing this Swachhata Pakhwadaand threw light on the various activities planned to be conducted in the fortnight starting from 16th to 31st July, like puppet show, symposium, shramadhan, swachhta rally, awareness on dengue and malaria, demonstration on waste management and vermin compost, workshop, health checkups, community awareness drives, tree plantation drives and conducting various competitions and how all the proposed activities have been aimed at targeting the youth, that is school and college students to create an awareness amongst them to make India really clean.

Dr.Nagaraja R, CCA PES Trust ®, Shivamogga proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ashok Kumar T Principal, Institute of Technology and Management, Dr Sailatha Principal, Institute of Advanced Management Studies, Prof. Somashekariah, Principal, PES Public SChool and Mr. Srikanth N Patil, Principal, PES Polytechnic, Dr. Jana Basavaraj of Pre University College, Mr. Ganapathi, Head Master, Govt. High School, Gadikoppa, Administrative Officer of Mythri College of Nursing, Shivamogga also participated in the programme. Programme ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
